The best local, long distance ride.
I love a good long distance trip but I can’t spend my entire season out on the road (but I would like to!). Mt Baker is 240kms of near perfect road that is very similar to a long distance tour. Single lane, trees, mountains, and hardly any traffic. There is no road like this close to home. If I have 4-5 hours spare time this is the ride I would I pick to do. There just isn’t a ride in town (vancouver, bc) that is better than this.
Here is the exact route I ride everytime I go to Mt. Baker. I cross through the Truck Border Crossing at 176th ave. Ride H street through Linden, WA. I will work my way through some farmland as indicated on the map. I make sure to ride Silver Lake Road. Silver Lake road connects with the road to the peak of Mt. Baker. I will caution everyone who does ride or drive to the peak of Mt Baker for the first time. When the corner states 15mph or 20mph, it does mean it! There are no guard rails and some corners are a long way down if you don’t make it!
Enjoy!
